Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, often known as CBT, is an evidence-based psychological therapy that explores the relationships between thoughts, emotions, behaviours and physical responses. It can help you understand patterns that may be maintaining emotional difficulties and develop practical ways to respond differently.

CBT is collaborative and personalised. Together, we develop a shared understanding of what you are experiencing, identify the cycles that may be keeping difficulties going and work towards meaningful goals using strategies that can be carried into everyday life.

Integrative practice

Third Wave Approaches

Where appropriate, I can incorporate third wave approaches alongside CBT to complement your individual therapeutic experience.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

ACT can help you make space for difficult internal experiences while reconnecting with personal values and taking meaningful action.

Compassion Focused Therapy

Helpful where self-criticism, shame or a harsh inner voice are prominent, supporting a safer and more compassionate relationship with yourself.

Additional approaches

Therapy may also draw from mindfulness, metacognition and personal values depending on your needs and therapeutic goals.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is a structured psychotherapy developed to help people process distressing or traumatic experiences that may continue to feel present long after the event itself.

Traumatic memories can sometimes remain stored in a way that leaves the nervous system reacting as though danger is still happening. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation alongside carefully paced therapeutic work to support the brain in processing these memories and reducing their emotional intensity.

EMDR can form part of an individualised treatment plan for trauma and PTSD, with the pace of therapy guided by safety, readiness and your needs.

Support through Fertility, Pregnancy, Birth and Early Parenthood

The journey into parenthood can begin long before pregnancy. Fertility difficulties, fertility treatment, pregnancy, birth and the transition into early parenthood can each bring significant emotional, physical and relational change.

Alongside joy and hope, this period can include uncertainty, anxiety, loss, low mood, intrusive thoughts, difficult birth experiences, trauma or a sense of losing connection with yourself. Therapy provides a confidential space to process these experiences and understand the impact they may be having on you.

Supporting parental emotional wellbeing can be important for the individual, relationships, the developing parent and baby bond and the wider family. Therapy is personalised and may draw on CBT, EMDR or integrative approaches.
